Your adventure travel business Facebook page

As promised, I'll be referencing another great web marketing resource whose golden nuggets of marketing info can send your adventure travel business soaring.

Social Media Examiner is a fantastic website for all thing related to this area.  I find it's always brimming with easy-to-understand and implement ideas for social media marketing.  While they touch upon nearly every major site and strategy, I'll focus today on the 900-lb gorilla, Facebook, and how you can make sure that your business page on the site is maximizing your selling potential.

Since there are 11 items mentioned in this article, I'll look at the first six, then cover the other five next week (thanks goes to author Mike Gingerich)

1.) Maximize your cover image
Many adventure travel businesses lend themselves to having action-filled mind-blowing images to place as their header image.  But did you know that you can also include important business information, a call-t0-action on this valuable virtual real estate?  That way, your visitors won't have to scroll down mid-page to see it.  Just be sure to keep from exceeding the 20% limit of the total cover area.

2.) Evaluate your profile image
OK, it's great to have a fun image for your personal profile - your pets, kids, a hobby, or just you.  When it comes to your business, though, you'll want to think of one word here: branding.  Use your company logo, if you have one, instead of a photo of yourself or even people doing the activities offered through your company.  Bonus points if you have a square-designed image.

3.) Review your tab thumbnails
You know those little boxes underneath your cover photo? The ones that show your "likes," links to your Twitter and Pinterest pages and photos?  Quite a few companies take these tabs for granted and don't do much with them (mine? guilty as charged).  Make them visitor magnets with creating attention-grabbing copy, encouraging your visitors to engage.  For example, you might just want to say something like a tasty almond mocha "Share your adventure!" tab rather than just boring vanilla "Comments."

4.) Maximize use of tab apps
Also as part of those same tabs, you'll want to use apps that can increase visitor engagement. Consider using third-party apps to promote a contest, offer deals or simply capture their information for list-building. Always use one of the three visible tabs to showcase these business-builders.  One great idea here would be to promote adventure travel package specials, or a link to a giveaway sweepstakes.

5.) Use the short description
Many businesses here include their slogan or tagline, which is fine. But you can also make this another strong selling point for your business. Use vibrant language here, and don't be afraid to let your company's personality shine through.  The key here is to write something to the point, short and sweet, about your business. Also, don't forget to include your URL.

6.) Optimize the About section for search
This part of your business page is indexed for search engines, so pay close attention to what you include here. These might seem like tedious sections (Company Overview, Description, General Information and Mission), but take some time to include your chosen optimized travel keywords and phrases to increase your web presence.

Now that think about this, my own FB page needs some work. I plan to implement most, and hopefully all, of these six changes by the time I bring you part two next week. If you're interested in checking out my business page progress, just follow me here!
